Friendly rivalry keeps couple on target
CARLO Barletta has dealt with more than just the difficulty of shooting targets this year - he has had the constant reminder from fellow shooters every time his wife Donna beats him.
Having progressed into A-grade this year, Donna joined Carlo in the grade.
They have travelled across Queensland to compete.
After a highlight year last season, it has been less successful for Carlo this time around.
But his goals have changed as a friendly rivalry has infiltrated his home.
And now all the Gladstone Clay Target Club members are keeping tabs on them.
"It is an individual thing and you perform to your own ability," he said.
"Donna is shooting a lot better, she got a new gun and that has helped.
"People are letting me know when she beats me."
Overall, the two Barlettas don't mind finishing second best in the spousal challenge if they have had a good day personally.
They simply enjoy taking the opportunity to get away from the stress of work and do something they love.
Which is why Carlo has been to nine clubs to compete as well as the Gladstone range this year.
"When you travel it helps the local club, other clubs repay the favour and come here.
"This sport you are always mixing with great people," Carlo said.
