Teacher shaves cookie duster for men's cancer research

GROW, grow, grow your mo, gently down your lip.

Mo fever has prickled its way through Gladstone and young and old are taking on the challenge of Movember.

At the start of the month, there would have been very few sporting the facial fur but as the end of November nears, the bristle batons seem more extravagant.

Tannum Sands State High School teacher Mark Hodge is part of the Tannum High Movember team, an initiative that had make his his "cookie duster" disappear for the first time in more than a year.

Starting the month clean shaven was a strange change, and one that wasn't preferred by the man who isn't fond of shaving his upper lipholstery.

Now the mouth brow is slowly returning but not without a good reason.

The team of seven is raising money for prostate cancer research.

"It's a good cause and needs the funding," Mr Hodge said.

But this time, he's "being a little more creative" and has opted for the sideburn look during his Movember stint, an idea that encouraged some interesting comments from supportive students.

To donate to the Tannum Sands State High School Movember team, go to the Movember website and search "Team Tannum".

They have been rallying for donations at school this month and hope to raise as much as possible.
