Free workshops to learn about drones

THERE is no doubt the use of technology in agriculture is continuing to grow as it advances.

AgForce industry recovery and resilience officer Noel Brinsmead is co-ordinating a series of free workshops around Central Queensland to teach farmers about building farm resilience through the use of digital mapping and drone technology.

"It is (technology) evolving and you get to read a lot of stories about how technology like drones are being applied on farms,” he said.

The workshops will be held in Capella, Emerald, Springsure, Biloela and Duaringa in the second week of March and Mr Brinsmead is encouraging farmers to head along.

"It provides an opportunity for farmers to learn new skills to help improve their business now and into the future,” he said.

The drones allow farmers to look at the elevation of the land and also the way water flows through their property.

"They can measure the health of the crop, do weed mapping, they can also do elevation modelling,” he said.

"At the workshops we'll hopefully have the opportunity to put a drone in the air to demonstrate capturing data.

"Then in the afternoon we will share the data and what can be done with it.”

The workshops will also include discussions on how to maintain and improve natural capital for future generations, grains updates from the AgForce grains policy director and the port of Gladstone as well as safety presentations from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and Ergon Energy.

The workshops are free and will run from 9am-3.30pm.

Capella: Monday, March 5.

Emerald: Tuesday, March 6.

Springsure: Wednesday, March 7.

Biloela: Thursday, March 8

Duaringa: Friday, March 9.

Venues will be confirmed via email in the week prior to the workshops. The workshops are funded under the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Cyclone Debbie Agricultural Recovery and Resilience Project.
