Foxy Lady leads the charge

RON Williams steered Foxy Lady to third place in Division 4 in last weekend’s 30th annual Bay to Bay Trailable Yacht Race.

On a weekend of generally light breezes, the race was remarkably fast, though a change of wind direction late in day two caught out crews whose concentration had waned.

Williams and his crew have more than 50 Bay to Bay outings between them and their experience showed as they put together an error-free race.

In a race within a race, Foxy Lady also won her class, the Sonata 7 class, with seven entrants.

In Division 2, Upshot and Fuzzy Logic jousted for most of the race with Two Wright clear ahead of them. Full results will be available next week.

Meanwhile, Scott Patrick, along with Hannah and Phoebe O’Brien, represented Port Curtis Sailing Club in Keppel Bay’s annual May Day regatta.

In the Division 3 fleet of mixed monohulls, Patrick and Hannah O’Brien were tied for first after day one. Patrick just squeezed past the younger sailor on the second day to win the event, with O’Brien runner-up. In 15 to 20-knot, blustery conditions, both sailors relished the challenge and pushed each other to perform.

In the “Dash for Cash” event after the regatta proper was over, Patrick was third and O’Brien fourth.

Phoebe O’Brien, who was sailing in her first regatta, was second in Division 4.
