More students come forward against Principal Maguire
A FURTHER four people contacted The Observer yesterday after our report about the jailing of former Gladstone principal John Dennis Maguire over child sex abuse charges at a Sydney college.
One former student, who asked not to be named, claims his life was impacted for decades after leaving the Gladstone Catholic high school (now Chanel College) in the 1970s.
He said he left school in Year 9 because of Maguire who "physically assaulted" him several times during his three years at the college.
"I hope this is only the beginning of the time he has to spend in jail," he said. "He is not a very nice man at all.
"I think of that place as a pretty eerie place. It's a place that holds a lot of bad memories for a lot of people."
