Four Australian Tax Offices to close in Queensland

QUEENSLAND will lose four Australian Taxation Offices (ATOs) under the Federal Government's plan to close all remaining ATOs in regional Australia.

Dozens of jobs will go when offices shut in Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and Toowoomba.

Federal Opposition spokeswoman Terri Butler says the shutdowns will disadvantage regional customers and are unnecessary.

"The Australia Taxation Office is the worst hit agency under the federal budget," she said.

"It is decimating the Australian public service - there is a $142 million worth of cuts to the Australian public service over the forward estimates and that's 16,500 jobs nationally.
