Fothergill reigns supreme

CIAN Fothergill continued his stellar go-kart season at the weekend, taking out the Queensland Closed State Championships in Warwick.

In his fourth outing in his Monaco kart, Fothergill sat out the bulk of Friday’s practice due to the track being soaked.

“We didn’t want to use the good gear in the rain so we only had six laps in the dry,” Fothergill said.

The prediction of clear skies on Saturday didn’t eventuate, and Fothergill had little choice but to hit the slippery track.

“We couldn’t get any grip and were having four-wheel spins, and came second and third in the heats,” he said.

Engine builder Mick Gollan and friend Andrew Scott made up Fothergill’s pit crew and on the Saturday night, they brainstormed how to improve.

“We changed the front end around a lot, and finally got some grip,” Fothergill said.

“It came down to the last lap, but I was stoked with the win.”

Fothergill competes at the NSW Open State Championships this weekend in Tamworth in the Leopard Light and Clubman Light categories.
