SLEEVES were rolled up yesterday as members of the Gladstone community discussed a future with countless cultures.
The theme of the forum was 'building opportunities in a culturally diverse world' and it threw open discussion about how the Gladstone region needs to plan for an increasingly multicultural workforce.
Guest host of the forum was Jeff McMullen, a journalist with 35 years experience around the world. "The changes coming to Australian cities are happening so quickly that nobody really anticipated the scale and pace of this change," he said.
Mr McMullen took away from the forum a belief that Gladstone had a strong sense of 'community', which would help it cope with cultural change. "(A good community) is about a belief that it's not only about you," Mr McMullen said.
"A community is a 'whole'. It's a respect for the contribution of others who may see the problems a different way to you."
