Mother publishes kid's book
IF Tanya Kalantary can do it, so can you – and that's no lie.
The Gladstone mother of two is celebrating the publication of her first children's storybook, So Can You!
Written and illustrated by Ms Kalantary, a former high school art teacher, the book is the culmination of a two-year journey which finally came to fruition on August 10 with the launch of her book.
To say the journey was far from smooth sailing is an understatement, with Ms Kalantary admitting she had almost given up on the search to find a publisher.
“It took about 18 months to find someone to publish the book,” Ms Kalantary said.
“In the end I had to go overseas to get the book published.”
After six months of getting knockbacks from Australian publishers, Ms Kalantary found the motivation to recommence the search again early this year. And Ms Kalantary's resolution finally paid off with American company Strategic Book Group agreeing to publish her efforts.
Receiving a reply to her email query, made in February this year, Ms Kalantary recalls her reaction to the news they were willing to put her work to print.
“I just thought ‘Oh gosh!',” Ms Kalantary said.
“I felt so relieved, ecstatic and excited.
Now a stay-at-home mum to children Amalia and Kyan, Ms Kalantary admitted that once she started writing So Can You! it just all “came out”.
So much so that she has since written her second book, Monsters Don't Smell, a story about children's vivid imaginations, which she is now in the midst of illustrating.
Copies of the book cost $15 and are available for sale from the website www.tanyasbooks.com
