Kieran Foran looks likely to slip away from Eels

FIRST it was Daly Cherry-Evans and his gold medal back flip on the Gold Coast to take a lifetime deal to stay with Manly.

Now his classy halves partner Kieran Foran is upset Parramatta has reneged on a heavily loaded contract - which included a $1 million walk out clause - and is reconsidering his future, which could be back at Brookvale.

"I have shown the utmost respect to Parramatta, and it doesn't look like they have done the same to me," Foran said in a statement which suggests he has gone sour on the Eels' deal.

But the saga could have another twist following reports that Bulldogs and New South Wales halfback Trent Hodkinson has been considering linking with Newcastle in 2016.

If that happens, Foran's former coach Des Hasler could make an 11th hour play to get him to the Bulldogs, despite Manly's intentions to offer the Kiwi international a similar lifetime deal to the one which caused Cherry-Evans to have a late change of heart.

The Cherry-Evans circus was so embarrassing it forced NRL officials to scrap its unpopular round 13 rule, replacing it with a 10-day cooling off rule.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy is one NRL coach who can't wait for the change to come into effect, with the spotlight constantly being shone on off-field issues.

"Again the game has suffered a black eye," Bellamy said as league's latest signing fiasco unfolded.

"Again we look like we are a bunch of amateurs when things don't go right."

Meanwhile, Bulldogs back-rower Josh Jackson is free to play in State of Origin III after having his dangerous throw charge downgraded. Jackson is still suspended for the Bulldogs' game against the Melbourne Storm on Monday but is available to play at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday week.
