6am: WHEN Zoe Hohn counted only three horses in her North Rockhampton paddock, her heart sank to the bottom of her boots.

"I saw the distressed look on my mare's face and I knew her foal had been stolen," she said.

Zoe, 25, received a call early yesterday morning from the neighbour of her Water St paddock that her three-week-old foal was missing.

"I was actually on my way to the paddock when my neighbour rang me," she said.

"She told me that she had heard some noises on Wednesday night coming from the horse paddock and when she checked the paddock in the morning, Turbo was missing.

"I quickly ran up to the paddock and saw the rope laying on the ground beside the gate, I then looked at my mare's face, she was so distressed. I knew someone had climbed the gate and taken him."

Turbo is a miniature, chestnut colt with a tiny white star on his forehead.

He's only three weeks old and is still surviving off his mother's milk.

Zoe, a horse trainer in the area, was devastated someone would take a baby from its mother and jeopardise an animal's life.

"He won't live without his mother's milk and he'll only survive for the next 48 hours or less if he is not returned to his mum. Foals are not meant to be weaned off their mother's milk until four months of age.

"I'm offering a reward for his safe return. If the person who's done this wants a pony I'm happy to help them out or if they want to annonomously return the foal then there'll be no questions asked. I just want him back."

Detective Sergeant Glenn Powell of the Rockhampton Stock Squad said police were investigating the incident.

"It was reported to us early this morning that the three-week-old foal had been taken from the property," Sgt Powell said.

"The owner last saw the foal at 7pm Wednesday night so the offender has stolen the foal after that time."
