Flynn vote investigation underway

AN investigation is underway into the incorrect handling of 452 early votes in the seat of Flynn.

Electoral commissioner Ed Killesteyn described the error as a serious matter that had resulted in those votes not being counted.

The legal advice was sought after the Divisional Returning Officer discovered that these votes had not been handled in accordance with the provisions of the Commonwealth Electoral Act.

Mr Killesteyn further advised that he has instigated an urgent examination into the circumstances which led to the exclusion of these votes.

The examination will establish the facts surrounding the incident and report its findings to the Electoral Commissioner.
