Flight Facilities coming home to headline music festival
TRIPLE J favourites Flight Facilties will headline the inaugural Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival next month.
Organisers announced the headliners this morning ahead of the August 22 festival at the Horton Park Golf Course. The "prodigal sons" of Maroochydore are returning to home soil for the special gig.
The duo first came to the attention of the Australian public via a string of popular club singles Crave You, 'Foreign Language and Stand Still after cutting their teeth as DJs in Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.
Flight Facilities released their album Down to Earth in 2014, which earned them two entries in the triple j Hottest 10.
They will swap the stages of Coachella and Splendour in the Grass for the inaugural festival set to make waves in Maroochydore with a mix between music and visual art never seen before.
But despite widespread and international demand the opportunity to headline a boutique festival on home turf was too good an offer to pass up.
"Festivals weren't really around when I was growing up on the Coast, so being a part of something like this is really special to me," James (Jimmy) Lyall said.
"Not to mention how much fun playing a hometown"
Flight Facilties join a massive list of entertainment for the festival including Hermitude and The Kite String Tangle. Work has already started on building infrastructure on the sixth hole of the former golf course, which includes a 70-metre bar and shipping container art gallery.
"Things are ramping up now with the announcement of Flight Facilities, and Sunshine Coast locals are really getting on board," organiser James Birrell said.
"We have a 10,000 capacity in our natural Amphitheatre and open-air Vis Art Park so the atmosphere on the green is going to be amazing.
"Our second release tickets sold out last week, so our final release tickets are your last chance."
