Five years to make CQUni Trade Training Centre
THE engineers and trades students currently learning at CQUniversity could be finished their studies by the time the proposed Trades Training Centre is built.
The proposed $16.4 million engineering hub destined for the Gladstone Marina is shovel ready because the university has already built an engineering hub in Mackay.
The Mackay Trade Training Facility took five years to build after it was proposed in August 2009, construction contract awarded in May 2011 and the official opening in May 2014.
Currently the Mackay centre has 587 apprentices, 80 school based students and 20 pre-vocational education students.
Gladstone's numbers are slightly lower but the Gladstone City Campus also provides a wider variety of courses, including hair and beauty, hospitality and business.
The university hopes a new centre would increase the current number of 510 apprentices, 65 school based students, 20 pre-vocational students and 40 post trade students.
