Fitness trainer is on a mission to heal

FOR Melbourne-born James Elliot, moving to Gladstone five months ago was a spontaneous decision.

In his 27 years James has dabbled in many things, including acting, personal training and natural medicine.

"I was learning natural medicine and healing techniques off a shaman in Mexico when I was deported back to Australia," he said.

"I went to visit my cousin, who had just had a baby, and felt an incredible pull towards Gladstone, that this was the place for me to stay."

Mr Elliot has set up Balance is Key, a personal training business that focuses on functional movement, nutrition and holistic health.

"My purpose is to awaken people and through my work I've been able to help many people," he said.

"Gladstone has been so welcoming and supportive to me and I believe that this wouldn't have happened anywhere else."

When isn't training clients Mr Elliot is taking part in community events such as the JDRF walk and regular church meetings.

"David Kingston from the Anglican church has been a mentor for me up here," he said.

Mr Elliot is also a musician, writing songs and playing guitar since a teen.

Martial arts and silat are also passions.

"I live my fun," he said.

He has plans to expand his work into "Om Fit", including fitness and spiritual elements, when he eventually moves back to Melbourne.
