First QLD resident charged over clown hoax to face court

A 15-year-old Inala teen will become the first person in Queensland to be charged over dressing up as a clown with the intention of frightening people.

Police allege that between 9pm and 10pm yesterday the boy dressed in a clown mask and stood underneath a street light holding a kitchen knife in suburban Inala south of Brisbane.

He allegedly told officers he wanted to scare his siblings however members of the public saw him and reported the incident to local police who arrived on the scene and allegedly found him sitting nearby in a car, still wearing the clown mask.

The boy has been charged with one count of causing a public nuisance and one count of unlawful possession of a knife and is set to face Richmond Children's Court tomorrow.
