TIMELAPSE: Firies on high alert

WITH temperatures set to sizzle across the region firies have been placed on high alert.

The combination of dry conditions and hot weather means that any spark could start a fire which could spread quickly.

Gladstone Fire Inspector Craig Magick said rural fire stations around the region were keeping a close watch on weather conditions.

"At the moment all of our brigades are ensuring that they are in order and prepared for the hot conditions," he said.

"Because of the higher fire danger if there is a fire it will spread rapidly and be fast moving."

TIMELAPSE: The highest temperatures each day this week.

He said permitted burns were still allowed after 6pm but local fire wardens would continue to monitor the situation and would keep people with permits updated.

"It's been a busy fire season because there isn't enough rain at this time," he said.

Inspector Magick asked residents to be careful when using power tools over the weekend and to ensure that they have a fire extinguisher handy.

He advised against welding and slashing.

He also asked residents to clean out their gutters and tidy up around the house.

"We ask the community to remain vigilant during these hyper conditions so that crews can respond quickly," he said.

Any fires that burn more than two metres in any direction require a permit which can be authorised by local fire wardens.
