Smoke over Gladstone believed to be from Rocky fire

SMOKE in sky around Gladstone is most likely coming from a fire burning at Byfield north of Yeppoon.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed it is not aware of any other fires burning in the central Queensland region.

But a spokesperson said it was also possible there was a permitted burn they hadn't been required to attend.

"We are not aware of any other fires burning in the central Queensland district," the spokesperson said

Local brigades have not received any calls for assistance.

If you are aware of a fire, possibly burning out of control, or believe houses or people are at risk, call 000.  

The fire near Byfield broke out yesterday at 12.30pm.

It is burning between Crows Rd and Orchard Rd, with 26 crews working to contain the fire.

The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service helped with water bombing on Thursday.

Queensland Rural Fire Service on Thursday warned smoke would be seen in the area.
