Fire just 50m off

FLAMES came within 50 metres of a Brendonna Rd property as Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Gladstone crew members battled an inaccessible blaze at Beecher State Forest yesterday.

No property or people were injured during the close call, which is believed to have occurred around 8am.

The Department of Emergency Services lowered the severity of the incident around midday yesterday, while fire crews worked to build containment lines around properties along the stretch of road.

A smoky haze blanketed Gladstone and surrounding suburbs yesterday morning.

Pharmacists advised residents with allergies or asthma to remain indoors.
