Fire delays highway traffic near Benaraby

A BUSHFIRE near Benaraby stopped traffic on the Bruce Hwy for half an hour on Sunday afternoon, after the wind turned and smoke began heading over the road.

The fire had been burning in inaccessible country since Saturday.

Rural Fire Service Queensland crews were on scene, and although the fire posed no threat to property at the time, heavy smoke was visible in the area and parts of the blaze were burning near the highway.

Motorists were urged to use caution on the roads and be mindful of emergency service vehicles operating in the area.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advised residents to keep windows and doors closed and keep medications close by for respiratory conditions.

Crews will continue to monitor the blaze.
