Fire crews working to put out blaze at landfill

UPDATE 11:30AM: The Rockhampton Regional Council has confirmed a fire in the greenwaste pile at the Lakes Creek Road Landfill.

The smoke from the fire activated the alarm in the Waste Transfer Station.

Council apologises for any inconvenience to the residents in the area who may have been awoken by the alarm.

A number of facilities across the State are experiencing fires in their greenwaste piles due to recent rain, low humidity and wind.

Council is reviewing current processes to limit fires and interruptions to services at the landfill.

Fire crews are currently working to put out a fire at the Rockhampton landfill.

A large amount of mulch is on fire and an excavator has been called in to assist.

The fire stated around 5.30am this morning.
