Bushfire smoke blankets Gladstone CBD

UPDATE 2.10PM: Smoke from a bushfire at Mount Beecher fire has enveloped the Gladstone CBD.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a sky spotter had surveyed the fire from above to get an idea of how big it was.

"They gave the details to the crew on the ground, who are looking at breaks and methods of getting the fire under control," he said.

EARLIER: Four Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews are at the scene of a bushfire burning at Mount Beecher, between Siding Road and Jim Whyte Way.

The fire, which broke out at 9.30am on Thursday, is not posing any threat to property.

Firefighters are continuing to monitor the fire and will conduct air observation reconnaissance operations on Friday morning.

Residents of Mount Beecher and surrounding areas may experience smoke throughout the day.

They are advised to close doors and windows, and keep medication on hand if suffering from a respiratory illness.

Motorists should drive to conditions because smoke may affect visibility.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
