Fire crews battle large grass fire at Calliope

A LARGE grass fire is burning on Racecourse Rd, Calliope.

Four fire crews are at the scene and more crews are responding to the fire, which broke out around 8.45pm on Thursday.

Fire crews are backburning in the area of Racecourse Rd and Taragoola Rd, Calliope, which is producing a large smoke plume in the area.

Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed and if they are susceptible to respiratory illnesses, keep their medication close by.

Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions.

There is no immediate threat to property at this time, but if residents are concerned their home is under threat they should dial Triple Zero (000) immediately.
