Fire crews backburn to keep blaze in state forest

FIRE crews are still at the scene of a large bushfire in the Beecher State Forest near Gladstone which has been burning since Thursday.

Firefighters will be conducting backburning operations from containment lines to keep the fire within the state forest.

Motorists have been reminded to drive to conditions and be aware of emergency services workers and vehicles operating in the area.

Smoke from the blaze blanketed Gladstone CBD on Friday.

Residents suffering from respiratory illnesses are advised to keep medication on hand.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
