Update 2.53pm:

The fire is now under control and crews are doing some back burning.

Brent Lashford from Machine Creek Rural Fire crew said he believes the fire could have been deliberately lit.

He said the location of the start of the fire was the reason he thought that was the case.

Update 2.06pm:

Brock Jones from the Mount Larcom Café said the fire is currently 200m from the shop.

"It's absolutely massive. One of staff members lives next door."

The fire is in a paddock at the moment, he said seven fire crews had driven past.

He said if the wind changes, he expects most of the town of Mt Larcom will go up and help the fire crews.

"The SES is pretty big, and the town sticks together. In this community, this town, it would be nothing for the locals to give them a hand."
