Dad takes the catch as baby shoots out
A BIRTH is always an event to remember, but for this couple it will be one they never forget.
Kylie and Robert McDowall welcomed their fourth child on Monday at 1.25am.
It began as an uneventful labour after Mrs McDowall's water broke on Sunday morning and the coupled headed off to the hospital.
But there was no action until about 11pm that evening when their baby boy Finn Gough McDowall decided it was time to start the arrival.
In fact, he moved so quickly the doctor didn't even have time to make it to the birthing suite, leaving husband Robert and the midwife to make the delivery a success.
"He shot out so fast my husband actually caught him," mum Kylie McDowall said.
"He was so shocked and actually thought he was going to drop him because he was so slippery."
Even though it will be her fourth, it's the first child the New Zealand-born mum has had in Australia, and said she was feeling nervous about being so far from home.
"It's different not having all my family around this time," she said.
"But we have a great group of friends here so, I am nervous, but I am sure it will be fine."
There's a five-year age gap between new baby Finn and his next sibling and young Finn came as quite the surprise.
"He was definitely not planned, so a massive surprise but a good one," the new mother said.
Mrs McDowall said she was recovering well despite the shock to her system after five years and was certain this would be her last child.
