Female jockeys race away with clean-sweep at Calliope meet

IT was a case of girls' day out at Calliope Races yesterday when female jockeys rode the winners on the four-race card.

Capping off the day for the women, Murgan-trainer Norma King won the cash prize for being the leading trainer of the day.

Before a crowd of 1200, rookie apprentice jockey Rhiannon Payne rode the first race winner when the Norma

King-trained Mai Maibe won the Maiden Handicap (1000m).

May Maibe led clearly before running wide on the home turn but then the filly kicked away to win by three lengths.

Rockhampton jockey Tracy O'Hara rode the first of her two winners when Gladstone-trainer Christopher McArdle's Greywin won the class two (1072m).

Greywin was slow to jump before circling the field to win as a well-backed $3 favourite.

O'Hara won the next race, the class five (1000m), on trainer Christine Tasker's Diable.

Rockhampton apprentice jockey Carly-Mae Pye completed the clean sweep when she won the Calliope Gold Cup (1072m) on race favourite Two Gundan.
