Federer could team with Nadal in Laver Cup

TENNIS: After years of battling each other from the other side of the net, Roger Federer may team with Rafael Nadal at the inaugural Laver Cup.

The 18-time grand slam winner was at the unveiling of the new three-day tournament to be held in Prague in September which will see a Bjorn Borg-captained European team taking on John McEnroe's Rest of the World.

The Swiss great, who beat his Spanish arch rival in an epic five-set Australian Open final last month, said "I've always wanted to play with Rafa... just because our rivalry has been so special.

"I've seen his wicked forehand go past me too often."

The Laver Cup will be held annually except in an Olympic year, with four matches each day - three in singles and one in doubles.

Each team will include six players - four based on the ATP singles rankings after Wimbledon and two picks by the captains, Borg and McEnroe.

Team Europe currently has 17 players in the top 20 of the ATP rankings.

"I think Team Europe are going to be big favourites but because of the set-up of the Laver Cup I think the margins are always going to be very slim," world No.9 Federer said.
