THE best in fashion across the state was on show on Saturday at the Calliope Catwalk Fashion Design Awards.

Entries came from as far as Mackay to Brisbane for the annual event.

And a returning designer Donella Smith Ashton could not have been prouder to enter her garments.

She entered three categories: race wear, evening wear and children's wear.

The two-piece she created for her children's wear entry were made especially for her daughters.

"I've given her a flow-y dress, because she loves to twirl.

"That's what she will be doing down the catwalk," she said.

The Calliope State School teacher said the event was perfect for budding designers to show off their talents.

More than 100 people attended the event on Saturday, held at the school.

The annual awards are organised by the Calliope State Primary School's P and C committee.
