Family wins $25k to put towards new home
WITH a child in hospital batting pneumonia for the second time in five months, a prize of $25,000 could not have come at a better time for the Wyllie family.
For years they had dreamt of owning a home and now that has become a reality.
The prize will go towards a deposit on a four-bedroom Calliope home on a 1010sq m block.
Keira Wyllie and two-year-old son Jaxon are currently in the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane for treatment.
Jaxon is a twin and was born early, which led to several ongoing complications.
When he first had pneumonia he was in an induced coma for six weeks.
Jaxon's bones were not completely developed by the time he was born, including in his hip.
"He's not a well little boy, but he is a little fighter," dad Shane Wyllie said.
"This is such a big help. It's a hell of a lot of money and it's going to help our lives so much."
Mr Wyllie accepted the cheque with his three children on Sunday.
The prize was part of a competition by the New Home Group.
He said when the announcement was made he "almost fell over backwards".
"I'm still on cloud nine. I can't thank them enough for what they've done for us," he said.
The family has rented a home in Tannum Sands for three years, at first paying $750 per week.
Mr Wyllie said the family had spent $81,000 on rent over the three years.
"I just want that money to go towards my own home, instead of someone else's pocket," he said.
