Family was splendid but it's good to be home
YOU know that feeling you get after being away on holidays?
That feeling of geez it's nice to be sleeping in your own bed, your own local home, and of course having control of the TV remote?
Yes all those things are great as I'm now back after a week away seeing family, and boy it's bloody great to be back.
I'm not saying that spending quality time with my kids - one of which is turning 12 today - is bad. I'm not saying that, I will say that it's good to be back.
I'm not saying that spending days with my parents and my sister's family wasn't good, it was actually marvellous but yes I'm glad to be back on home soil.
Let's just say that going down to Sydney unannounced was one of the funniest things I've done in ages.
The looks I got from my sister when I knocked on the door were priceless.
She had no idea but what made it all worthwhile was the hugs I got, really cool!
Mum and dad were invited over for dinner that night too and let's just say the smiles on their faces couldn't be any bigger as I didn't tell them I was coming down either.
I've had a week of family, beer, eating great food, beer, walking the streets of Circular Quay, and yes more beer.
I'm sure I've put on a few kilos but, what the heck, family comes first I reckon.
This week will all be about getting back to the gym and trying to lose all those pounds I've laid on over the past few weeks in the lead-up to hockey finals.
I've had a few messages on Facebook asking me to pass on a few words to my sister, and I did, and for that I thank you.
Katriona ran the City to Surf fun run on Sunday and did the whole 14km without stopping which was her goal.
She said she wasn't happy with the time of just over an hour, but who cannot be happy with that?
I say congratulations and well done, this is one very proud brother.
I love my family more than anyone knows, and it's right about now that I wish I could be a little closer as my sister goes under the knife again at the end of August.
Damn you cancer, we'll get you this time, go pick on someone your own size for a change.
Thanks for all your wishes, until next time.
