Family of murdered Jamie Gao plead for privacy

THE family of murdered university student Jamie Gao has pleaded for privacy following a highly publicised week of events which landed two former police officers in jail.

Infamous 73-year-old Roger Rogerson and his former colleague Glen McNamara are accused of killing Mr Gao after a $3million drug deal turned sour in Sydney's south last week.

Both have been remanded in custody amid allegations they were captured walking into a storage shed with the 20-year-old last Tuesday night and minutes later, emerging without him but carrying a bag.

Mr Gao's body was found wrapped in a blue tarpolin, which had been weighted down with rope and chains, off Cronulla's Shelley Beach on Monday morning.

Cars belonging to the former officers and a boat have been seized as evidence.

The case has attracted intense media coverage, with camera crews filming Mr Rogerson's arrest and camping outside Mr Gao's family home.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the family asked the waiting media to leave and for "their request to be respected during this extremely difficult time".
