Family mourn as homicide cops examine balcony fall

SETH Luhrs was a force of nature, driven and passionate, who would do anything for his family and friends and never let life get him down.

His loved ones are heartbroken after the 24-year-old's life was cut tragically short when he fell from a balcony at Rydges Esplanade in Cairns on Sunday.

"He was a shining beacon of light for me," older brother Zeb Luhrs said.

"He was always there for his family. He's helped us through so much and that's the hardest thing because he's gone and we have to get on without him."

Seth had been looking forward to the Easter long weekend, having worked six days a week since the start of the year.

"It's still so raw. He was my rock. He's not just my brother, he's my best mate," Zeb said.

"He just went through two years of hell and then he got given the green light to get on with his life."

Seth had struggled with a debilitating medical condition that left him unable to leave the house at times.

"He set an example for the whole family on how to live your life. It's not what happens that defines you, it's how you deal with it. He just didn't quit," Zeb said.

He returned to work last year at the Mt Emerald Wind Farm.

Zeb said Seth had big plans.

"He just had this massive drive. I've never met anyone like him. He just wanted to help people," Zeb said.

The two brothers lived across the road from each other in Mareeba. Seth, one of six siblings in a close-knit family, had bought his house before he was 21.

"One of the hardest things at the moment is seeing his ute and his house and he's not there," Zeb said.

He was known as the life of the party with a wicked sense of humour and a cheeky smile.

"He was always ready with a helping hand," Zeb said.

"He's going to be missed by a lot of people."

Police were treating Seth's death as suspicious.

"We're running an investigations centre with assistance from Cairns detectives and the homicide squad," Detective Senior Sergeant Brad McLeish said.

A 19-year-old who had been assisting police has been released from custody.
