Families make most of work-free Monday

FROM picnics to playgroups and a simple walk along the beach, there were plenty of ways to wind down on the public holiday on Monday.

The Observer headed to Barney Point, East Shores, Auckland Point and the Presbyterian Church to check out how people were spending their day.

Creator of Messy Kids Gladstone playgroup Skye Schwartz enjoyed watching children make a mess at the church.

"Today we had craft, spaghetti, slime and shaving-cream activities," she said.
