MARTIAL ARTS: They've made a temporary move from Toolooa Hall to Meteors Sports Club but the focus at Toogee Martial Arts Central Queensland remains the same.
CQ regional instructor Steven Cragg is a big believer in kids' fitness and is channelling that with the work he and his fellow instructors are doing at the club.
As a result, Toogee Martial Arts is hosting a free school holiday kids' fitness program beginning this Sunday and running over seven sessions during the September break.
"The (program) is to promote an active healthy lifestyle and to help the kids think of exercise as a positive and a normal part of life,” Cragg said.
"Too many people are treating exercise as a hassle or something that's not fun and there's too many kids growing up not doing any exercise.
"I want to give them something to do in the holidays, but also make exercise as fun as I can.”
The scourge of childhood obesity is also high on Cragg's agenda, as is using martial arts as a way to develop self confidence.
"We want the kids to grow up thinking exercise as a positive thing rather than something you do once in a blue moon,” he said.
"It definitely gives you confidence because you feel more prepared to handle yourself if there's a problem and you feel like you're getting stronger and better at something.”
