Ex-pat Wallabies keen to play in championship

OVERSEAS-based Wallabies Matt Giteau, George Smith and Drew Mitchell have told coach Michael Cheika they are happy to use the coming Rugby Championship to prepare for this year's World Cup.

The trio has com

Cheika named an initial 23-man train-on squad to prepare for the Rugby Championship after the weekend's final round of Super Rugby matches.

Those players, including five yet to play for Australia, come from the Queensland Reds, Melbourne Rebels and Western Force.

They will go into camp in Brisbane on Monday, before relocating to the Sunshine Coast on July 5.
