Evolve and employ to move forward as a business
WHEN it is tough for workers in Mackay, it is equally as tough for small business in the region.
But there are some businesses that are employing in an effort to remain "innovative".
Red Hot Blue owner Jody Euler has employed two people in the past month.
"I have been in business for 18 years, and a business has to keep evolving," she said.
"When things are tough you have to remain innovative."
While the two new employees are replacing former staff, it is a fresh injection of enthusiasm.
Zenta Martin-Szpyt has lived in Mackay for a year and met Jodi through her network as a volunteer.
Now she is Red Hot Blue's operations and production manager.
"This is the first time at this type of thing but I have a creative background," she said.
"I have always been interested in this and this is a real energetic company."
Melina Pavlic is the company's new marketing and communications officer.
Before starting at the advertising agency, Melina had a working relationship with people from Red Hot Blue.
