Cups raised to $600k Men’s Shed building funds

GLADSTONE Men's Shed hosted Labor MP Glenn Butcher for a regular catch up for possibly the last time at the Oaka Ln building yesterday.

It was on November 16 that the group heard it would receive $600,000 for a new facility at Barney Point to house its growing numbers.

But it has taken until Easter for the funding agreement to land in the Gerry Graham's hands, the president of the group.

"We're working through the agreement now with solicitors," he said.

"Once it is finalised by solicitors and both parties sign off on it we will go forward and build the new facilities."

The scope for the new building has been changed because the Men's Shed was given $400,000 less than what it had originally asked for from the $13.5 million fund that was set up in 2011 by Gladstone's three LNG plants.

Mr Butcher said it was good to see where the men were at with the move, after advocating for them in Brisbane.

"They're are at the stage where they are getting fair dinkum with it," he said.

"They're a good bunch of blokes, it won't take long."
