Adani mistake could wipe out entire industry: warning
AN INDIAN court fined Adani nearly $1 million after the company failed to clean up damage caused when an unseaworthy ship sank off Mumbai, a new environmental report has revealed.
But the mining company is appealing the decision.
Legal group Environmental Justice Australia released on Wednesday a compilation of Adani's court records titled The Adani Brief.
Environmental groups have warned a repeat could devastate the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland's tourism industry.
EJA lawyer Ariane Wilkinson said a similar event off the coast of Queensland could severely damage the reef.
But an Adani spokesman said Australian pilots with satellite assistance took all ships going through the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
The spokesman said there had never been a coal ship sunk inside the Great Barrier Reef marine park.
