Giving back to the environment
DO you have some spare time on your hands and love to volunteer?
What about helping out the environment?
If so, Conservation Volunteers might just be for you.
After hearing about the group from the Gladstone Regional Council website Cassandra Clark thought she would give it a go.
Having always loved gardening and with some free time on her hands Ms Clark jumped right in.
“I have always wanted to do something that would be helpful to the community and the environment,” Ms Clark said.
“I have always loved gardening and been a very hands-on person.”
Still a new member having only joined two weeks ago Ms Clark has already been involved with two major projects.
“I went to the Boyne Environment Centre where we worked on erosion control and also the workshop in the wetlands learning about mangrove habitats.”
Ms Clark said that the volunteer group worked on a lot of different projects including transporting plants, erosion control, information, education and rehabilitations programs.
Ms Clark encouraged other people to get on board as she said it was a great way to help and meet new people.
“It allows you to get out there and help and you get a real sense of satisfaction knowing you are doing something that counts.”
