FEDERAL Environment Minister Greg Hunt has called for an urgent review of claims the failure of a bund wall may have been a major factor in the collapse of water quality and marine health in Gladstone Harbour.
Environment groups have called for a royal commission-style inquiry into dredging in the port to establish what went wrong and whether state and federal regulators had acted responsibly.
The Australian reports Mr Hunt said he was seeking a review of the latest claims "as a matter of urgency".
Heavy flooding was blamed for a collapse of water quality and fish health in Gladstone in late 2011.
However, former employees have claimed a bund wall built to contain dredge spoils from the harbour dredging project had suffered a serious failure following design changes to cut costs.
