Entrants step up training for run
AS Australia's federal politicians prepare for the race for the 2010 election, so too are Central Queenslanders for the 2010 Gladstone Ports Corporation's Botanic to Bridge run.
The inaugural event includes two courses: an 8km event starting at the Toondoon Botanic Gardens and a 3km event starting at Reg Tanna Memorial Park. The finish line for both courses is the picturesque Gladstone Marina parklands.
Les Fleetwood and his family are stepping their training up another gear by furthering their training distances.
“Most of the family have been pretty crook the last few days, but myself and the girls (his daughters) are about to take up the 8km run,” he said.
Their training, involving up-hill runs and 6km runs, is about to intensify as the weeks draw closer and the brutal training regime is beginning to take its toll.
“I'm pulling up bloody sore that's for sure,” Mr Fleetwood laughed.
The 8km and 3km runs will take place on August 22, with $20,00 worth of cash prizes up for grabs for the serious runners and walkers and also for everyone simply participating in the event.
