Ensemble adds soul to Agnes blues festival
THE Soul Men guarantee to get you dancing with their Blues Brothers Tribute show.
The 11-piece ensemble features a horn section of four people, four people on rhythm and three lead singers.
Their energetic and catchy tribute show will feature at the revamped Agnes Water Blues Roots and Rock Festival.
Singer Greg "Wookie" Mulvihill said their performance was an accolade to some of the greatest blues and soul hits.
"It's a complete entertainment package."
"We teach people how to dance along with our steps as we go, too. Every song has a bit of choreography and the crowd always tries to mimic it ... some people are good, and some people aren't," he laughed.
They perform hits like Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, Minnie the Moocher and Sweet Home Chicago.
Quality musicianship and great singing results in a high level of entertainment; Mulvihill said the show appealed to those aged 25-65.
"If you're into dancing, you can expect a lot of that and a bit of sweat too," he said.
"We had a show at Mooloolaba Yacht Club recently and I saw a video back of it, and every single person in the crowd was dancing.
"It's great. Everyone knows the songs."
Since 2009, the 11-piece show has been performed at corporate functions and music festivals, most recently the Mitchell Creek Rock 'N' Blues Fest.
"That show was really cool, playing to 3000 home-grown Aussies," he said.
"If I could do a festival gig every weekend I would."
It will be their first time in Agnes Water.
He said they were all keen to play another festival and check out the local scenery.
"I've been told Agnes is absolutely beautiful; I'm coming for the whole weekend so I'm looking forward to enjoying myself too," he said.
The Agnes Water Blues Roots and Rock Festival will be held at the Seventeen Seventy SES Grounds from February 20-22.
One-day passes are $80 and three-day passes are $130.
