England cricket team buoyed by series win over the Kiwis

ENGLAND one-day captain Eoin Morgan hopes the 3-2 ODI series win over New Zealand is the prefect boost for the Ashes, starting next month.

The home side bounced back from a dreadful World Cup to beat the Kiwis, scoring a record 1617 runs in a five-match series in the process. In the final game at Durham, the home side slipped to 5-45 in chase of a revised target of 192 off 26 overs after rain fell between the innings.

"We've come out of left-field and managed to deliver some entertaining cricket," Morgan said. "Let's hope going into the Ashes that we maintain that level."

England plays New Zealand in a T20 game on Tuesday night, its final international outing before the Ashes begins at Cardiff on July 8.
