Gladstone’s two jostling government electorate members will be manning all stations as the official crusade for a seat in parliament begins.


Addressing the nation from Parliament House in Canberra, Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard issued an August 21 election after receiving the green light from Governor-General Quentin Bryce just after noon today.
 

The historic election could decide if Gillard’s stay as PM is shorter than her ousted predecessor Kevin Rudd.


It will also see if Gladstone residents reinstate current elected Member for Flynn Chris Trevor or challenging LNP candidate Ken O’Dowd.
 

Despite much speculation Mr Trevor this week confirmed he would recontest his position when he spoke with The Observer earlier this week.
