Efficient Souths outfit opens with a win

HOCKEY: Meteors coach Wayne Chapman said despite his team losing 2-1 against Souths in the first round of the Gladstone Hockey, there were plenty of positives.

The reigning premiers have gone through some changes in personnel from the side that beat Sparks in over-time last year.

"We had a lot of chances and we have had a big improvement of how we worked the ball from defence," Chapman said.

Striker Brooke Hanson headlines a list of seven new players which include two new midfielders.

"They had two breakaways and scored twice," Chapman said.

"Souths finishing was the difference and they played well as a team and their goal-keeper had a great game."
