East Shores wins state section of landscape awards

EAST Shores has been recognised across the state, taking out the Urban Design Award of Excellence at the Queensland 2015 Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture Awards on Friday night in Brisbane.

The Gladstone East Shores Redevelopment Master Plan and its first stage of completed works has been crowned as one the state's best of the best in landscape architecture.

Appointed by Gladstone Ports Corporation, Urbis was tasked with re-imagining the future of Gladstone's waterfront through master planning, design and delivery.

AILA judging chair Mark Fuller said the Gladstone East Shores Development Master Plan showed a commitment by Gladstone Ports Corporation to celebrate the unique character and iconic location at the maritime entry to the city.

"The master plan shows a genuine effort to maintain a connection with the site's industrial heritage using evocative and powerful imagery and concepts, grounded in an understanding of the potential of the site," Mr Fuller said.

"The project is proof that regional communities continue to think big and can deliver innovative planning outcomes."

The master plan and unique landscape architecture elements were assessed in the industry's most prestigious awards, including the first stage of completed works - Gladstone Coal Exporters Maritime Precinct.
