Bruce Hwy chaos after truck crash

UPDATE: TRAFFIC on the Bruce Hwy and surrounding roads was left at a standstill on Saturday afternoon as crews cleaned up a diesel spill left by an earlier crash.

A spokesman from Queensland Police said one lane of the Bruce Highway was expected to remain closed for until mid afternoon.

Reports on social media said southbound traffic was backed up all the way from Beerwah where the crash happened about 3am this morning, to where the Sunshine Motorway merges onto the highway.

The congestion was so bad the Sunshine Motorway itself was also heavily congested.

EARLIER: SOUTHBOUND lanes of the Bruce Hwy remain at a standstill this morning with several drivers taking to social media sharing pictures of the traffic snag,

Earlier there were reports of a crash at Roys Rd, Beerwah - not too far south of Aussie World.

Another driver Cass CJ sent in a picture of bumper to bumper traffic at what appears to the be on ramp to the highway - from the Sunshine Mwy - south of Sippy Downs.

She said the traffic was: "bumper to bumper."

Queensland Police were unable to confirm if the traffic snarl and the earlier crash were linked.

EARLIER: A SEMI trailer has rolled in the gully between the north and southbound lanes of the Bruce Hwy this morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash near Roys Rd, Beerwah at about 3.05am.

The driver was concious and breathing and suffered a gash to the head.

The truck wasn't carrying dangerous goods.

The southbound fast lane has been closed for about 500 metres while the trailer was pulled out at about 5.10am and emergency services may have to drag the trailer across the median strip to get it off the road altogether.
