Dylan's appetite for success
SOCCER: Young Gladstone talent Dylan Fry is one of those teenagers who have the drive to be successful.
The 15-year-old goal-keeper has crossed codes from Aussie Rules and basketball to take up a position in front of goals for Gladstone United in the local Gladstone junior competition.
So much so that his talents were recognised because he is this week's Yaralla Sports Club Junior Sports Star of the Week winner.
As reported in the Observer on June 20, Dylan will try out for the under-16 Crystal Palace team in mid-November at Selhurst Park in London under professional coaches Gary Phillips and his brother Mark.
Dylan's Gladstone coach Anthony Coleiro said the youngster thrives on hard work.
"He has worked tirelessly over the last year to strengthen and enhance his skills as a goal-keeper to a professional standard,” Coleiro said.
He was selected as goal-keeper for the U15 Capricornia team at just 14 and he narrowly missed out on state selection for Queensland.
But such is the character of the young man is that he has not given up.
"Not letting this setback affect his ambition of one day professionally playing football for his country, Dylan has trained virtually every day in the off season practising and developing his skills with the goal of being selected in the Queensland team,” Coliero said.
In order to cross each T and dot each I, Dylan wanted to make sure that he covered all bases.
He lifted his training regime and one of his other coaches Nelson Rose noted a massive development in his skills and fitness.
Dylan can quite often be seen training regardless of the weather and whether it is dark or light.
His trip to the UK will include playing games against the Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City, Arsenal and Celtic Rangers Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion youth teams youth teams.
"I was very shocked, but shocked in a good way and am very pleased with it and excited about the trip and there is still a lot of hard work to do,” Dylan told the Observer last month.
