Duffie, Munster spark scoring romp as Storm swamps Titans

NO PLAYER in the NRL deserved to score a double more this weekend than courageous Storm winger Matt Duffie.

The former New Zealand national junior high jump champion has undergone two shoulder and two knee reconstructions in recent years, and coach Craig Bellamy was thrilled to see the 24-year-old cross twice in Melbourne's 36-14 win over the Gold Coast at AAMI Stadium.

Duffie would have had a hat-trick, but his spectacular diving attempt around the corner post in the first half was deemed a no try by video officials, ruling his left hand touched the white line just before he grounded the football.

He wasn't to be denied in the 33rd and 58th minutes, however, helping the Storm overcome an early 8-0 deficit to remain in the top eight.

Former Queensland Cup player Cameron Munster continued to impress standing in for injured Queensland and Australian fullback Billy Slater, claiming his first NRL hat-trick..

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Warriors will be counting down the days until brilliant Roosters fullback Roger Tuivasa-Scheck joins the club next season. The Kiwi international also grabbed a hat-trick as the Tri-colours survived a spirited second-half comeback by Newcastle to record their eighth-straight win, 38-22, to close the gap on Brisbane and the Cowboys.

The livewire custodian grabbed a brace of tries in the 31st and 37th minute as the Roosters showed their class with five first-half tries.
